Other X-ray features:
In the lumbar spine, other vertebral features include1:
- Beaking
- Notching 凹口
- Scalloping
Normal X-ray:

Normal lumbar spine1
Only multiple anteriorly notched vertebrae are characteristic of dysostosis multiplex4
MPS IV (Morquio syndrome) has characteristic medially beaked vertebral bodies4
The combination of anterior notching and posterior scalloping is very characteristic of MPS disease1
MPS X-rays:

Two-year-old patient with MPS II. Note platyspondyly and inferior beaking of the second lumbar vertebra.2

Twenty-one-year old patient with MPS I (Scheie). Note the marked anterior beaking.3

Patients with MPS. Note pronounced superior notching (left) and mild but more extensive notching (right).4

Patient with MPS. Note the superior notched lumbar vertebrae.1

Patient with MPS. Note the middle beaking and posterior scalloping.1
